Path to Reopening

The Library's Path to Reopening

As of Monday, July 20, all Library locations will be open​, including the reopening of Quarry Park, Seton, Village Square, Shawnessy, Rocky Ridge, and Saddletowne ​libraries.  

All Library locations have returned to their regular service hours. The Library has implemented Temporary Senior Hours for the first hour of service each day to support seniors and persons with underlying health conditions more susceptible to COVID-19. Please check for the operating hours of your nearest location before visiting.  

Curbside Holds ​Pickup Service, a contactless and convenient service,will continue to be offered at all locations except Rocky Ridge, Nicholls Family, and Sage Hill libraries

Locations will have metered access, limited hours, and public health protocols in place, including limited capacity, hand sanitizing stations, and physical distancing. As of August 1, all staff and visitors are required to wear a mask inside Library locations in keeping with the Temporary Face Coverings Bylaw. A single-use mask can be provided to visitors on request.

Items can be returned inside Library locations during open hours or through the exterior book chutes. The Library continues to provide public library service in the following ways:

  • Digital Library access to eBook, audiobook, movies, online courses, and more
  • Weekly virtual programming and events
  • Library Hotline, a chat, email and phone service (403.260.2600) to provide support and resources
  • Curbside Holds Service, a contactless pickup service available at most locations 

The Library will be sharing more on what to expect when locations open and how to help reduce risk and keep our staff and visitors safe when you are able to visit.

Curbside Holds Pickup Service

Curbside Holds Service, a contactless curbside pick-up service, is now available at all locations except Rocky Ridge, Nicholls Family, and Sage Hill libraries.

Notifications will be sent to members that are able to pick-up their holds with instructions. Do not visit a location for holds pick-up if you have not received a notification.

Do not use this service if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, have recently travelled outside Canada, or have been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19. 

The Calgary Public Library recently announced its new Fine Free model, and no fines will accrue on overdue items.

Picking up your Holds through Curbside Service:

  • Check the hours of operation for your pick-up location online before visiting. 
  • Once you’ve arrived at your location, call the pickup number that’s posted outside. Staff will then prepare your holds.  
  • Please remain in your vehicle or stand away from the entrance while staff bring your holds and place them on the pickup table.  
  • Once staff are back inside the Library, you can approach the table and pick up your holds. Please do not place any personal bags or other belongings on the table. 
  • Please maintain physical distance of at least two metres from anyone else in the area.
