Resources for Coding Buddies and Code Club

Why Coding?

In today’s world, just about everything relies on coding (computer programming) of some kind. Just like math or reading, coding has become a foundational skill; something that’s important to understand whether or not you plan to have a career in computer science. Learning about coding also helps kids develop great problem solving and logic skills, and practice persistence.

Coding Buddies and Code Club

Coding Buddies and Code Club are Calgary Public Library's newest computer programs for kids. Coding Buddies is for kids in Grades 1 – 3; Code Club is for kids in Grades 4 – 6.

We use self-guided online modules from Code.org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping every kid learn about computer science.

We use the same two workbooks in both Coding Buddies and Code Club. Start with the Beginner book, and when you have completed that (or if you have taken the program before), move on to the Advanced book.
