The Library at Your School

As a precaution to help limit the spread of coronavirus and support the City's efforts to promote social distancing, the Library is increasing its response to COVID-19, including cancelling all outreach programs, including visits to daycare, schools, and seniors' homes.

The Library Goes to Kindergarten

Program length varies

Library staff will engage families at your Kindergarten orientation night, including (by request) through stories, songs, art making, and games.

Kindergarten kids can also receive a special edition Library card, designed just for them by the 2019 Children’s Artist/Illustrator in Residence, Nicole Wolf.

The Library at Your Event

Literacy nights, school showcases, year-end celebrations — whatever your event, Library staff can help animate it with a display table and resources to share. Request a Storytime, book talk, or sing-along.

It’s a Crime Not to Read

Grade 3
One hour

Staff and a Calgary Police officer visit participating schools monthly to read aloud to students and talk about the role of police in the community. A selection of books is brought to each session for students to borrow until the following month.

This program is full for the 2019–20 school year. Please check back in May 2020 for information on how to apply for the 2020–21 school year.

Info Investigators

Grades 4 – 6
One hour

Students will learn basic online research skills and media literacy by using Library Digital Resources for science and social studies topics. This program is available in October/November and February/March at your school using your laptops or at Library locations using our computers.

Lest We Forget

Grades 5 – 12

Program length varies

Students can uncover the life of a Calgary soldier during the First World War using primary and secondary sources from our local history collections and Library and Archives Canada. This program is offered in schools and at Central Library.

The Book Truck at Your School

This Library on wheels visits your school every two weeks, all week long, bringing more than 1,000 books on board. You can also request a Storytime or special resources for English Language Learners, students with visual impairments, and other learning needs.
