The Library is here to help welcome students, with their caregivers, to kindergarten. This year, we are doing it virtually. Library staff are available to attend as guests in your school's online kindergarten orientation. We'll celebrate with you and provide details on Library resources, programs, and support available to get ready for school.
Ultimate Summer Challenge is a free yearly program by Calgary Public Library that encourages kids ages 0 – 12 to read, learn, and create all summer long. They also have the chance to win fantastic prizes, like an iPad or Nintendo Switch! The Challenge was specifically designed to support literacy and learning through curriculum-connected resources to set students up for success when September returns. This year, the Ultimate Summer Challenge is going to space, with themed maps and activities for kids to complete.
We are promoting the Ultimate Summer Challenge in a variety of online formats designed to work best for your schedule, whether you are teaching online or in the classroom. During our virtual promotions, we’ll get your students excited about the Challenge by introducing our grand prizes, sharing some great reads, and showcasing some of the Library’s amazing programs and services that will be offered during the summer.
Please fill out the Request a Visit form and we’ll reach out to you with virtual options for your grade level.
Need fresh ideas, information, or insight? The Librarian On-Call offers office hours to support educators by answering questions related to resources for remote learning, virtual field trips to the Library, and virtual classroom programs.
In accordance with provincial guidelines to help limit the spread of COVID-19, the Library has paused all in-person outreach programs, including visits to daycare, schools, and seniors' homes. We are committed to providing as much public service as safely possible. We will reintroduce in-person school visits on this page when they return.
