Central Library School Tours

We are very excited to see you and your class at the Central Library! When completing the form, you will be asked to choose from bonus experiences or tour options, depending on the grade level.

Students in kindergarten to Grade 6 will take part in a 20-minute bonus experience and a self-guided tour of the building.

K-6 bonus experience descriptions

Automatic Material Handling machine: The AMH is an amazing book-sorting robot. Come behind the scenes to learn more about where your books go when you drop them in the slot or onto the Bookscalator at Central Library.

Elders' Guidance Circle: Join our Indigenous staff to learn how the Library honours our place in Treaty 7 territory.

Calgary's Story: Explore artefacts, books, and the Living History digital kiosk and learn some research tips  in our local history collection with expert Library staff.

Vintage Media Lab: Super 8, microfiche, and DVDs! Discover and experience past technologies that helped share and record information.

Students in grades 7 to 12 will take part in a 60-minute directed tour, with one of the following themes.

Grades 7 – 12 directed tour descriptions

Building tour: A walking tour of the building highlights, including the architecture and unique challenges of the site.

Calgary's Story: An introduction to our local history collection, Vintage Media Lab, and genealogy resources.

Introduction to Research Skills: Learn about different online tools available as eResources and how to evaluate information.

Lest We Forget: Uncover the life of a Calgary soldier during the First World War using primary and secondary sources from Calgary's Story and Library and Archives Canada.

Once you complete the form, a Library staff member will be in touch to confirm your date, time, and other details. Please note tours will only be booked Monday to Thursday. 

You may only book tours for a total of two classes per day (maximum 60 students).
