Integrated School Support Program

Overview

The Integrated School Support Program (ISSP) provides children with opportunities to learn and thrive in a fun and friendly environment. This program is offered in partnership with other community organizations.

Calgary Public Library volunteers support staff with program delivery to foster lifelong learning skills and keep students engaged after-school, on-site, at selected schools.

Program Goal

Provide students with opportunities to learn and thrive

Length

Throughout the year
Afterschool program
2.5 to 3 hours per week

Volunteer Qualifications

Friendly, committed and reliable
Ability to interact with students of diverse backgrounds and ages
Good problem solving skills
Able to work independently
Interest and/or experience in supporting the student’s learning endeavors
Interest and basic skills in making learning ‘fun’ for students
Positive attitude, good literacy skills and enjoys working with elementary age children
Good role model
Experience with special needs children is an asset

Volunteer Responsibilities

Support staff with program delivery, activities, games and snacks as directed
Contact Program Coordinator if you are unable to attend a scheduled session
Follow Volunteer Resources standards of conduct
Ensure a positive, comfortable and productive learning environment
Be a good role model
Ensure that the participants have an enjoyable learning experience and stay on task
Follow the guidelines set out by the program coordinators

Training

Complete a Library orientation and training session including child protection training
