What to Know Before Visiting the Library

Calgary Public Library will begin to gradually reopen locations in multiple phases. On Tuesday, June 23, the first three locations to reopen are: Crowfoot (8665 Nose Hill Dr NW), Fish Creek (11161 Bonaventure Dr SE), and Forest Lawn (4807 8 Ave SE).

Hours of service will be Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and closed on Sundays. The Library will implement Temporary Senior Hours for the first hour of service each day to support seniors and persons with underlying health conditions more susceptible to COVID-19.

All locations will have limited capacity and reduced hours of operation. Please confirm if your location is open and what services are available before visiting. The next round of locations to reopen will be announced on Wednesday, June 24.

The Library has implemented physical distancing and personal hygiene protocols to create a safe and clean environment for staff and the public. Watch the video to understand these measures in action.

Do not visit any Library location if you:

  • have a fever or cough
  • have travelled recently
  • have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19

While some locations may be open, certain services may be unavailable or heavily restricted. Some of our services that are not currently available:

  • Book return chutes (exterior / after hours returns)
  • In-person events and programs
  • Room bookings
  • Book donations
  • Play materials and structures in Early Learning Centres

In-person Library services currently available at reopened locations include:

  • Printing / copying
  • Desktop computer access (one-hour time limit)
  • Collection access (checkouts / in-location access)
  • Limited seating

Curbside Holds Service, a contactless holds pick-up service is also now available at all locations. Check calgarylibrary.ca for hours of operation.

The Library is encouraging all visitors to:

  • Wear a mask or face covering. All staff and visitors must wear a mask when two metres of physical distance is not possible.
  • Clean their hands before entering a location. Hand sanitizing stations are located at the entrance of all locations.
  • Limit your visit to 60 minutes to ensure more people can access services.

Due to physical distancing and limited access, wait times may be experienced. We appreciate your patience.

Materials Returns:

All exterior book return chutes remain closed. Returns are only available at open locations (Crowfoot, Fish Creek, Forest Lawn) during operating hours.

Due to the large volume of materials in the community, the Library is asking members to wait until their home location reopens before returning items. This will help staff to manage the nearly 500,000 books currently checked out.

All due dates have been extended until July 30, 2020, and no fines will accrue.

To return your materials, enter an open location during operating hours and place your materials in one of the temporary return quarantine area. All materials will be quarantined for 72 hours before staff can handle them and return them to circulation.

All updates on reopened locations and service changes will be posted at calgarylibrary.ca/reopening.
