Math Playground

OVERVIEW

Help young students in Grades 1 to 3 explore introductory numeracy and math concepts in a fun and friendly environment. Math Playground is a weekly program that provides one-on-one and small group assistance to students. Youth volunteers can apply.

PROGRAM GOALS

Help students achieve academic success
Provide positive mentors and role models for students
Increase awareness and use of Library resources, services and programs
Provide a leadership opportunity for youth volunteers

Dates and times vary depending on location

VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS

Junior and senior high school students (Grade 9 to Grade 12)
Able to do simple math
Enjoy helping young students

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES

Attend an orientation and training session
Provide one-on-one support to students to complete group activities and math workbooks
Be a positive role model for participants
Teach math games to small groups of students

TRAINING

A 30-minute training session prior to first session
