Calgary Public Library Introduces A New Way To Watch Movies For Free

Attention all movie buffs! Calgary Public Library members can now access more than 30,000 films for free, thanks to a new e-resource called Kanopy.

What is Kanopy?

Kanopy, a popular on-demand video streaming service for public libraries, is now available online in our E-Library. Watch award-winning documentaries and acclaimed films, rare and hard-to-find titles, must-see classic films, Canadian cinema selections, and an array of foreign language films, with collections from The Great Courses, Kino Lorber, and PBS.

How can I access Kanopy?

Kanopy can be accessed on a variety of devices and platforms, including Roku, Apple TV, iOS, and Android. For members with a visual or hearing impairment, Kanopy films have captions and transcripts and are compatible with reader technologies, such as JAWS. Kanopy films come with Public Performance Rights, which means the films may be used for free in classrooms.

How many movies can I watch?

Calgary Public Library members receive 10 play credits every month, meaning you can watch 10 films. Once you press play on a film, you have three days to view it as many times as you like without using another play credit. Once you have reached your quota of films, you will not be able to play any films until a new month starts and you will receive 10 play credits again.

How do I get started?
