Read Letter Day


Share your love of reading and engage in team building at the same time in this unique program. As a group, adult volunteers come to the Library to read one-on-one to children to spark their interest in reading books. Fostering an early interest in reading provides children with the key to lifelong learning.

Program Goals

Introduce the joy of reading to young children
Instill genuine desire for lifelong learning
Provide access to the world of books and knowledge
Increase awareness and use of library resources, services and programs


Fall  Winter  Spring  Summer
One to two hours as scheduled

Volunteer Qualifications

For a group of 10 to 15 adults
Fluent in English
Strong reading skills
Clear speaker
Patient and reliable
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations

Volunteer Responsibilities

Promote and support children’s reading skills
Read 2-3 books aloud to children


A one-hour training session on literacy trends and tips on reading to young children


Share the joy of reading with young children
Team building
