Blast off to free summer fun with the Ultimate Summer Challenge at Calgary Public Library. Kids ages 0 – 12 can explore a galaxy of reading challenges, activities, and exciting free programs. Those ages 13 – 17 can join the Teen Takeover. All ages could win prizes that are out of this world!

Sign-up now on Beanstack with your free Library card. All kids must register with their own Library membership (Get a free membership online). The challenge goes from June 1 to August 31, 2021. Track your progress online or through the Beanstack website or app.

There's an App for This

Sign-up and participate in the Ultimate Summer Challenge through the Beanstack Tracker app, available for android and IOS.

  • Download the Beanstack Tracker app to your phone or tablet.
  • Search Calgary Library as your site and complete your profile.
  • Sign in or, if you haven’t already, register for a free Beanstack account using your Library card.
  • Parents and caregivers, add your kids as Readers into your app (remember they must have a Library membership).
  • Sign each reader up for the Ultimate Summer Challenge under the Challenges section.
  • Start participating and tracking your progress!

How Ultimate Summer Challenge works

Earn virtual badges

Reach reading milestones, complete activities, and attend online programs. Track your progress online in Beanstack to earn badges.

Library staff have created a list of fun activities that your family can complete at home or in your community using everyday objects. Find them on your Challenge map and on Beanstack.

Sign up for free online programming for kids and teens. Learn about bugs and animals, make music, learn about space, and much more. Sign up for a program today.

Families and kids ages 0 – 12 can also record reading and listening time by printing a Challenge Map at home or requesting one at any curbside services location. Colour your map as you read to track your progress!

Win prizes

When you register, you are automatically entered to win a grand prize. And, there are draws for weekly gift cards when you hit a reading milestone!

  • Prizes for kids ages 6 – 12 include iPads, STEM activity kit subscriptions or Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart Live.
  • Prizes for families include custom books with a keepsake tote or an activity box subscription with a monthly delivery of activities, games, and stories for your child.
  • Prizes for teens include iPads and Chromebooks, and $500 gift cards to Best Buy, Indigo or DoorDash.
  • Ages 6-17 are entered to win weekly gift cards when they hit reading milestones on Beanstack! Maximum one prize per child.

Grand prizes will be drawn in early September. Winners will be notified by phone and/or email, so make sure your contact information on your Library card is up to date!

Teen Takeover: Lost in Space

Need a break from planet Earth? Escape with us to a summer of reading and creative challenges, designed for ages 13 – 17. Teen Takeover is between June 15 and August 31. Earn badges by reading or challenging yourself to one of the creative activities. Each badge you earn will give you a ticket to enter in one of the 10 Grand Prize draws. All you need is your device to start tracking your reading and earning digital badges.
