ESL Conversation Club

Overview

Help new Canadians with intermediate conversation skills practise their English speaking and listening skills in small groups. Volunteers lead interesting conversations about travel, food, shopping, careers, etc.

Program Goals

  • Provide a comfortable and safe environment to practise speaking and listening in English
  • Foster independent learning skills
  • Provide an enjoyable social setting

Length

Fall / Winter / Spring
Two-hour programs
Six-week sessions

Volunteer Qualifications

  • Fluent in English
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with people from all backgrounds and all skill levels

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Attend an orientation and training session
  • Commit to all dates of the program
  • Create a supportive, fun, and rewarding environment

Training

A four-hour (or longer) training session covering program materials

Benefits
