Library Docent

Overview

Share Calgary’s stories with the public by providing tours of exhibits and Library spaces.

Program Goals

  • Promote Library spaces as a safe and welcoming environment/destination for all ages
  • Support Library staff in facilitating dynamic interactive learning
  • Increase patron satisfaction

Length

Fall / Winter / Spring / Summer
As needed
Event dates and times vary depending on requests

Volunteer Qualifications

  • Able to work independently
  • Fluent in English
  • Public Speaking Skills
  • Outgoing and friendly personality
  • Enjoys learning new things and sharing their knowledge

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Attend an orientation and training session
  • Engage patrons and share knowledge both to small groups or one-on-one
  • Interact with stakeholders in a friendly and respectful manner
  • Abide by the Volunteer Standards of Conduct

Training

  • Information Package provided prior to first shift for independent learning
  • On-site orientation provided by community Library staff
