Library Mascot: “Curious” and Handler


Represent the Library at community events throughout the city as our chameleon mascot “Curious”! Mascot handlers are partnered with the mascot to communicate with the public on behalf of the mascot (mascots can’t speak!) and to ensure the mascot’s safety. This is a youth and an adult opportunity.

Program Goals

To represent the Library at community events throughout the year
To interact personally with Chameleon fans


Event dates and times vary depending on requests for the mascot

Volunteer Qualifications

Attend a volunteer orientation and training session
Outgoing, friendly personality
Reliability and punctuality
Excellent communication and social skills
Physically fit and able to stand for long periods of time
Ability to work independently
Excellent interpersonal skills, especially working with children from diverse backgrounds

Volunteer Responsibilities

Attend volunteer orientation and training session
Interact with the public in a friendly and respectful manner


Greet public in costume and in character at library events and represent the Library at community events throughout the year


Support the mascot by assisting it to meet and greet the public, looking after physical and safety needs and escorting it at all times


An in-person orientation and training session to review program materials


Meet new people and explore new opportunities
Bring joy and fun to the community
Have fun and contribute to your community
Develop interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving, communication and time management skills
