Math Quest


Help students in Grades 1 to 6 and their families as they complete numeracy quests throughout the Library.  Share your passion and expertise in math during this drop-in afterschool program and have fun!  This is an adult and youth volunteer opportunity.

Program Goals

  • Help foster a love for numeracy and demonstrate that math can be learned in many ways
  • Instill confidence in children and a genuine desire for lifelong learning
  • Confirm and develop the links between the Library, learning, and fun
  • Develop participants’ understanding that math is in the world around us


Fall / Winter / Spring / Summer
One-hour program
Once a week
Dates and times vary depending on location

Volunteer Qualifications

  • Passion for numeracy
  • Friendly and able to interact with children
  • Non-judgmental
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Physical range of mobility and flexibility to conduct activities with children

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Support program goals
  • Help participants one-on-one to complete quests
  • Provide encouragement to children and parents
  • Complete an orientation and training session
  • Ensure a positive, comfortable, and fun learning environment
  • Abide by the Volunteer Standards of Conduct
  • Adult volunteers act as Team Leads for youth volunteers and participants
