Calgary Public Library invites applications for Indigenous Language Facilitators at Central Library in downtown Calgary, Alberta, for fall 2025.
Description of opportunity
Calgary Public Library is looking for experienced Indigenous Language Facilitators at Central Library. We are currently looking for Treaty 7 First Nation members; Blackfoot, Tsuut’ina, Stoney Nakoda, or members of the Cree, Métis, and Inuit communities with experience in Indigenous languages, Indigenous culture and teachings, and the way of life within their own lives. All Indigenous applications will be accepted and considered for program delivery.
Remuneration
$300 per class, up to ten classes per session. Calgary Public Library is inviting interested applicants to submit an application, including resources which may be needed for instruction.
Qualifications
The following eligibility criteria apply:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Fluency in a Treaty 7 First Nation language; Blackfoot, Tsuut'ïna, Stoney Nakoda, or members of the Cree, Métis, or Inuit communities with experience in the Indigenous language that you are applying for
- Experience and knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions
- Strong communication skills
- Self-starter and comfortable working in a team environment, but able to perform independently
- Experience or knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the importance of healing our community through culture, traditions, and teachings
- Must be comfortable teaching language to patrons of the Library including both written and oral
Additionally, the successful applicant must be willing to:
- Sign a formal written contract which will detail the rights and responsibilities of the Library and the Instructor
