Story Truck

OVERVIEW

Visit dayhomes around Calgary and share great books and toys with kids and caregivers aboard the Story Truck! Along with stories and fun, staff and volunteers share early literacy information and model good early literacy behaviours.

PROGRAM GOALS

Equip dayhome providers and parents with early literacy information and resources to enhance their understanding of, and ability to promote, early literacy
Engage children in early literacy-enhancing activities

LENGTH

Fall / Winter / Spring / Summer
3 hour sessions
One shift per week

VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS

Fluent in English
Able to create a welcoming environment
Able to engage in play-based activities with children aged 0 to 5 and caregivers
Strong interpersonal skills

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES

Attend an orientation and training session
Support program goals
Commit to participate in the program for a minimum of 6 months
Support staff in promoting early literacy activities
Assist with set up and clean-up in the vehicle

TRAINING

A two hour training and orientation session
