Sun Life Financial Musical Instrument Lending Library

We're making music more accessible for all Calgarians! Borrow a musical instrument from the Sun Life Financial Musical Instrument Lending Library at Memorial Park Library, for free, with your Calgary Public Library card.

Note

When placing a hold on an instrument, select Memorial Park Library as your hold pick up location. Instruments must be picked up, and returned to Memorial Park Library.

 Borrowing Instruments

  • Place a hold on an instrument using your Calgary Public Library card. Select Memorial Park Library as your hold pick up location. Instruments must be picked up, and returned to Memorial Park Library.
  • You’ll receive an email or phone call once the instrument is ready.
  • Then you'll have seven days to pick the instrument up at Memorial Park Library.
  • Your Library card and picture ID are needed to sign out an instrument.

 Rules and Conditions

  • You can borrow one instrument at a time, with a valid Calgary Public Library card and photo ID.
  • You can have one instrument hold per card at any given time.
  • The loan period for an instrument is three weeks. If no one else has placed a hold on the instrument, you can renew it once, and keep the instrument for a total of six weeks.
  • If you return an instrument after the due date, you will be charged an overdue fine.
  • If you lose or damage an instrument or its accessories, you will be charged a replacement or repair fee.

Donate an Instrument

Donate a new or gently used instrument to the Sun Life Financial Musical Instrument Lending Library by June 30 to help make music more accessible to Calgarians. See our Instrument Wish List for more information.

Music Coach Volunteers Needed

We're seeking musicians skilled in guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, bass, piano, drums, violin or viola to coach beginner musicians. Please email Connie Smith, Volunteer Resources Specialist, for more information.

Memorial Park Library Practice Room

Need a place to practice?  Memorial Park Library has free practice space that can comfortably accommodate up to two musicians.   The room has an electronic drumkit, and an upright piano. It also features an electric piano, donated by k.d. lang. To book the practice room, call 403-260-2600 and ask to speak with staff at Memorial Park Library.
