Getting Here

Whether you choose to walk, bike, drive, or take transit to the Library, we’ve got you covered.

Central Library, located at 800 3 Street SE, is one block east of the former building and just behind City Hall. Lane and road closures around the East Village are listed on the EV Experience website.

Public bike racks will be located on all sides of the building, and bus routes 1, 10, 69, 75, 102, 103, 117, 133, 151, 300, 302, 411, and MAX Purple stop within three blocks of Central Library. The closest CTrain stop is City Hall. Plan your route using the Calgary Transit trip planner.

Parking for Central Library, Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, City Hall, and Arts Commons is available in the City Hall parkade accessible via 9 Avenue SE. There is also lots of street parking available in the East Village.

Building Accessibility

From entry ramps on the west side to an elevator on the east side, the Library is accessible for all. The outside elevator is staffed and available 24 hours a day, allowing for easy passage through the archway, connecting people between East Village and City Hall.

Once inside, there are elevators, ramps, and stairways for visitors to move throughout the building. Elevators have braille buttons and an audible elevator signal, and stairs have tactile, contrasting colour warnings on the floor at the top of the flight.

Inside Central Library, two Listening Assistance systems for performances, lectures, and tours are available:

  • One system uses portable FM transmitters and lightweight headphones or neckloops to support hearing aids.
  • One system uses technology to communicate with visitors’ Bluetooth-linked hearing aids. This system also allows multiple languages to be streamed if translation is required.
