Calgary Public Library Announces $100,000 in Funding for Resources and Books that Celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ Lives

Calgary, AB — Calgary Public Library announces $100,000 investment to support the acquisition and development of resources that seek to share and celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ stories, issues, and experiences.

“As libraries across North America see an increase in challenges and criticism of programs, resources, and their support of underrepresented voices in the 2SLGBTQ+ communities, Calgary Public Library wants to actively increase our holdings in this area and invest in the fight against misinformation and intolerance,” says CEO Sarah Meilleur.

This investment amounts to approximately 5,000 additional books, eBooks, and audiobooks in the Library’s existing collections, an increased selection of music and movies that are available for streaming, as well as a commitment to increase local 2SLGBTQ+ content held in Calgary’s Story, the Library’s local history archive. This investment is funded by supporters of the Calgary Public Library Foundation.

“Calgary Pride is happy to hear that the Library continues to support and invest in the stories of our community and we hope that these new items will enable more people to fight misinformation with truth and value all members of our community,” says Sumit Manjul, Manager of Production and Programming at Calgary Pride.

June is International Pride Month; Calgary’s Pride Week will take place from August 26 – September 4, 2023.
