Summer reading just got even more fun! From 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Central Library, enjoy a day filled with scavenger hunts and other activities, all while finding books to complete the Ultimate Summer Challenge.

Want to learn more about Powwows? Have you ever wondered if there are protocols that you should know about? Throughout the summer, there will be outdoor demonstrations prior to the Kainai, Tsuut’ina, Piikani, and Stoney Nakoda Powwows — which all make up the Powwow Trail.

Kindergarten Family Event

Do you have a child starting Kindergarten this fall? Join Calgary Public Library in celebrating the exciting journey of starting school. Enjoy games, art, and stories as we embark on a fun-filled adventure with other soon-to-be Kindergartners.

Canada Day

Central Library | July 1 | 12:00 pm — 5:00 pm 

Join us for free activities and programs to celebrate and recognize Canada’s many stories. Activities include a special storytime, traditional Indigenous dancing demonstrations, musical performances, and a citizenship ceremony for new Canadians. 

Complimentary cookies and coffee for the first 200 visitors to Central Library will be available from 12:00 pm until supplies run out in generous support from Second Cup

National Indigenous History Month

Multiple Library locations | June 1 — 30 

Alongside partners, the Library will celebrate and honour Indigenous peoples in Calgary with events, activities, and resources. From a round dance at The Confluence (formerly Fort Calgary), to performances by Indigenous artists, and Elder Storytimes, National Indigenous History Month is filled with moments to celebrate, reflect, and learn.

Reading in the Wild

Memorial Park Library | All ages | June 25

Join us for Reading in the Wild, our first annual outdoor read-a-thon, presented by WordFest and Calgary Public Library. Bring a blanket and a book to celebrate the joy of reading.

LitCon 2024

Online and in-person | At select Library locations | May 27  31 

Join other young writers, readers, artists, and musicians at LitCon, a literary arts festival for students in kindergarten to Grade 9. Classrooms can connect in virtual sessions with peers and professional creatives to learn more about the literary arts while individual students can get inspired during in-person programs at select Library locations.
