Library launches a Micro Library pop-up in Walden

Calgary Public Library wants to understand more about the Walden Community in anticipation of a new location opening there in 2026. To help develop a service plan for the area, the Library is increasing community engagement activities there and has launched a pop-up installation – the Walden Micro Library!

This cozy and temporary space invites discovery and feedback from community members on library services. The Walden Micro Library is a converted mini-greenhouse filled with books that patrons are invited to borrow and return at their convenience – no check-out required! Patrons are encouraged to sign-up for their free Library card from their mobile device, or visit a nearby community location, such as Shawnessy or Seton, to learn more about free library services.

The Walden Micro Library is temporary, so be sure to visit in the coming weeks. It is located in the field adjacent to where the new permanent Walden Library will be built.

We want to hear from you!

Did you visit the Micro Library and have feedback to share, or are you a community member in one of our new service areas and want to know more about the Library? Connect with us through Library Hotline to provide feedback or ask questions.

About the new Walden Library

The City is moving forward on designing and building a new facility that will include permanent fire station and a new Calgary Public Library location. The community of Walden is an important and growing service area for the Library and the new 10,000 square foot location will be a full-service library that is easily accessible from public transit and local pathways while being close to multi-family residential and future schools. Walden Library is one of four planned new locations for the Library, others include Belmont Library, Skyview Ranch Library, and Symons Valley Library.
