Caretakers of the Land School Program

Overview

Calgary Public Library invites Indigenous people of all nations to apply for the paid opportunity to be a facilitator for our Caretakers of the Land program for the 2023-2024 school year. Caretakers of the Land is a virtual program for grades K – 9. In this program, Elders, knowledge keepers, authors, illustrators, performers, and Library staff share the diverse perspectives and ways of knowing of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people living in Alberta.

Grade Range

Please include which grade range you are interested in presenting to along with a detailed description of the topic you wish to share:

  • Kindergarten to Grade 3: The session will consist of a 25-minute presentation via Microsoft Teams followed by a 5-minute Q&A session, totaling 35 minutes.
  • Grade 4 to Grade 6: The session will consist of a 30-minute presentation via Microsoft Teams followed by a 10-minute Q&A, totaling 45 minutes
  • Grade 6 to Grade 9: The session will consist of a 45-minute presentation via Microsoft Teams followed by a 10-minute Q&A session, totaling 60 minutes.

Application Process

Given the online presentation format with concurrent school classes, we seek presenters who can captivate this audience through innovative and engaging techniques. Successful candidates will be contacted followed by an online discussion detailing the topic of your choice, aligning it with the objectives and logistics of the Caretakers program. Afterwards, we will schedule a practice run and finalize the date and time for the actual Caretakers of the Land session.

We are not accepting applications at this time.
