As a precaution to help limit the spread of coronavirus and support the City's efforts to promote social distancing, the Library is increasing its response to COVID-19, including cancelling all outreach programs, including visits to daycares, schools, and seniors' homes. School groups visiting Central Library without a pre-booked tour are welcome to use our new Explore Central booklet for kids ages six to 12. Ask for it when you arrive!

Discover the Library

Visit your local Library to discover how the Library can support your school journey. Or, extend your visit and take part in Library School, where you attend school at Central Library for an entire week! Did you know that the Library brings free activities to schools as well? There are also events for educators held throughout the year.

Library tours

Discover everything your local Library has to offer with a tour. Bookings should be made one month in advance (except for Central Library). Requests for school group tours for Central Library in the 2019–2020 school year will open later in the summer.

Library School supported by Cenovus Energy

Students in Grades 1 through 12 use the Cenovus Classroom in Central Library* for a week of hands-on, inquiry-based learning, including writing, reading, drawing, listening, researching and language skills, and information and media literacy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn from experts — including Library staff, artists, historians and authors in residence, and Elders.

*Please note, your 2021-2022 experience may be virtual to adhere with health guidelines.

Info Investigators

Grades 4 – 6
One hour

Students will learn basic online research skills and media literacy by using Library Digital Resources for science and social studies topics. This program is available in October/November and February/March at your school using your laptops or at Library locations using our computers.

Lest We Forget

Grades 5 – 12
Program length varies

Students can uncover the life of a Calgary soldier during the First World War using primary and secondary sources from our local history collections and Library and Archives Canada. This program is offered in schools and at Central Library.
