All Library locations are open with modified services.

Start your own book club with free Library resources

Reading doesn’t have to be something you do on your own. Book clubs are a great way to meet and create lasting connections with people who have similar reading interests to you. It’s a chance to go beyond the pages of a book and dive deeper into plots, characters, themes, and so much more.

Start a new book club or take your existing one to the next level with free resources at the Library. Whether you’re not sure where to start or are looking for book recommendations for your group — we have programs, spaces, and tools to help you stay motivated.

Find Books that are Accessible for Everyone

Purchasing a new book for all of your book club gatherings can be pricey. However, Calgary Public Library has multiple ways to find books of interest and make them accessible for everyone in your book club:

  • These eBooks have simultaneous sign-out on Libby, so you and your whole book club can read them digitally at the same time.
  • Be a book club hero with this batch of battle-tested, discussion-fueling titles that are sure to keep your group reading to the last page. View the list on our website.
  • Check out the “New” book sections at any Library location. There are often multiple copies of some of the newest, most popular books.
  • If you want to hear right from the author, check out the Library’s Author Talks series. Plan ahead and read their book before the virtual program.

Book a Meeting Room

Sometimes, it can feel like a lot of work to host people in your home. Instead, book a free meeting room at any Library location around the city to meet and discuss your latest book club pick. Many Library meeting rooms come with the equipment you’ll need to run a hybrid virtual and in-person meeting, as well. Book a meeting room on our website.
