Visit the Witness Blanket at Central Library

The Witness Blanket is an installation by master carver Carey Newman to recognize the atrocities of the residential school era, honour the children, and symbolize ongoing reconciliation.

The Witness Blanket will be on display until mid-October in the Simmons-Harvie Community Living Room, Level 4, at Central Library. Schools are invited to self-guide the Witness Blanket when they visit—recommended for grades 6-12.

Download the Witness Blanket Teacher Guide.

School Support Librarian

Need fresh ideas, information, or insight? The School Support Librarian brings Library support to your school when you need it. Whether you're a school administrator or educator, or teaching online or in a classroom, we can pair you with one of our knowledgeable staff. We will work with you to identify areas that could benefit from Library support.

To book a one-on-one consultation, please use our booking calendar.

Send your class to Library School

Teachers of any grade can apply to attend school at Central Library for a week of hands-on, inquiry-based learning. In the Cenovus Classroom, your students will learn from experts — including Library staff, artists, historians and authors in residence, and Indigenous Elders.

Applications to attend Library School for the 2023–2024 school year will open at the end of February 2023.
